Sweet Bliss...

On sunday morning, I stayed home from church with Henry because he has been sick. The older children went to church with their Dad. So, at about 10:30, when Henry finally fell asleep, I found myself totally alone in an empty house, with nothing to do. I was afraid to move, or speak, or even blink for fear of ruining the moment. So I didn't. I curled up on my wonderfully comfortable couch and took a nap. It was an amazing hour. Do you know how long it has been since I've done that??!

Don't get me wrong, I've taken plenty of sunday afternoon naps. Naps with children playing in the living room, throwing pillows at each other and beating each other up, while Josh and I both lay perfectly still on the couch hoping with all hope that the other will get up and stop the children induced terror so that our own personal nap can continue for just a few more precious minutes. The kind of nap where you sleep with one half of your brain and listen with the other so that you can snap to attention if anyone starts bleeding. Really. It's very restful.

But this nap, this one sweet, blissful hour... it was wonderful.

My guilty confession: I am so glad that I missed church last sunday. It isn't fun to have a sick baby. I certainly wouldn't wish sickness on him again. But now that it's past, and he is better, I'm thinking it really was all worth it.
