So, I have pictures that I want to show you. Pictures of my kids, pictures of other things that will make you smile, or laugh, or shake your head in utter confusion. But I can't. See, my dog chewed through the cable that attaches my camera to my computer. Nice of her, wasn't it? I've ordered a replacement. It's in the mail. Hopefully you'll get happy picture posts soon.
In other news...
My dog is ALMOST not worth all the trouble she causes. ALMOST.
My kids like to make their own cereal in the morning. I think it makes them feel old and independent, even though they are not, actually, either of those things. I hate it when they do this. I hate that they waste enough milk and cereal with their overly gigantic bowls to feed an entire village in Africa. Or so it seems. When it's early. And I am grumpy. And there is cereal all over the floor.
This year, my garden has produced more cucumbers than I could ever, ever know what to do with. We have eaten cucumber pasta. Cucumber salad. Cucumbers and dip. Cucumber and Cream Cheese sandwiches. The only thing I haven't done is make pickles. I've made pickles before. It was easy. They were good. But this year, I'm just not feeling the pickle making process. So the cucumbers are sitting on my counter, uneaten, unpickled. They taunt me, constantly mock my lack of pickle production. Sometimes, just to spite those awful cucumbers, I'll pick up a couple and throw them off the back deck. It makes me feel better, for a moment. Then I think of those cereal deprived children in Africa that I tell my children about every morning, and feel bad. Since those children would probably like a few cucumbers as well.
Next week, I will have three children in school. THREE! That means I will only have one at home. I'm thinking about going to the grocery store everyday the first week just for the sheer simplicity of shopping with one, versus shopping with four.
Speaking of the grocery store, I've discovered a great way to cut down on my grocery budget. When I think I need to go the store because we're running low on a few things... I wait a week. It's amazing how creative you get when you don't have much food in the house, surprising, really, how long you can go without milk OR bread. I mean really, just because the kids say they don't WANT peanut butter and jelly on a spinach and herb tortilla shell, doesn't mean they can't actually eat it.
Having kids in school will also help my grocery budget. Then all the "I'm bored. Can I have something to eat?" attitudes will go away and the snack food/yogurt/pudding consumption will be much more manageable.I wonder how my kids will feel about getting cucumbers in their lunch box everyday.
