Calling tech support when your internet is down, and listening to recordings that say, "If you are experiencing difficulties with your internet connection, find additional tips and hints on how to connect, on the web at www.suchandsuchblahblahblah..."
Heh. Because it's OH so easy to connect to the web... without an internet connection. I hate calling tech support. It made me cry once. But not this time. This time I was tough. And the person I was talking to was actually located in the US, and they spoke English as their first language. So we made progress fairly quickly. Even though we couldn't solve the problem. Because we have NO idea what the problem is. Some sort of undeclared outage... whatever that means.
So, my internet is down for the time being...
Lucky for me, I have an iddy biddy laptop and a portable USB modem that works great when I am anywhere but at home. See, as long as I have cell reception, I can connect. But cell reception at my house? Not so much. It's what I get for living right next to the middle of nowhere. Not all hope is lost though... If I'm on my front porch, with one leg in the air and one arm touching the metal gutter, I can get a signal. But all pregnant and stuff, I don't really trust myself to try that one while holding a laptop. And really, I would need my other hand to operate the touch pad so I would have to let go of the gutter, which would most definitely break my connection.
So there ya go. No internet at home.
It's a blessing in disguise, I think... the opportunity to remain disconnected for a while. Except earlier today, I needed a telephone number and it took forever to find the actual phone book (you know, the one made out of paper?), blow the dust off, and actually look something up manually. I tell you what, I'm Google spoiled, for sure.
