(Okay, so I know I have more pictures of Lucy. It isn't because I think she is any cuter than the other three... she just loves to pose. The picture of Sam.. that is the only picture I have of him in costume, and he isn't even looking at the camera! I just can't get the little monkey to sit still long enough for me to take his picture. Lucy, on the other hand... well, you can see how much she loves to pose!)
In our little town, nobody really trick or treats anymore... at least not in the traditional sense, going house to house. We don't have too many neighborhoods around here... not with more than a handful of houses, and come on... if you are making the effort to trick or treat, you need more than a few houses worth of candy. Last year, we went Trick or Treating at the Community Center, where local businesses set up candy booths all around the baseball fields and the kids went from table to table. It was fun, but the entire evening was colored by the fact that we nearly killed ourselves running across a five lane highway to get from our car, to the fields... and then we had to wait in line for nearly 45 minutes before we could start trick or treating. So, this year, with much delight, we headed to the wonders of our church's trunk or treat... where we trick or treated from the trunk of one car to the trunk of the next. Now, if everyone was like me, and simply lit a Jack-o-lantern and called their trunk decorated, this may not be a very exciting experience... but fortunately for my kids, who couldn't stop saying how much fun they were having, we had truck beds turned in to pirate ships, candy shooting cannons, and haunted houses all in our church parking lot. I was amazed at the creativity. So after stuffing ourselves from the communal Chili Pot, and winning cupcakes and the most amazing sunflower shaped yummy pumpkin cake in the cake walk, we filled our buckets with more candy than we will eat in a year. Good Times!
