Time for a Giveaway!!!

Back in the day, when my twins were not walking and running and getting in to all sorts of mischief, the biggest challenge of going anywhere was that you had two babies to transport, instead of one. Mothers in general, are excellent at multitasking... and while much can be down with one baby on your hip, two babies on your hips makes getting anything accomplished pretty much impossible. So, with two babies, you need a really good double stroller. I had one. It was a lifesaver. I never would have been able to go to the grocery store without it.

But, I didn't have this one:

Guess what?!!! You can!! Our good friends at Chicco want to give one of you a Trevi Twin Stroller absolutely free. How do you beat that?!! This awesome stroller sports independently adjustable canopies to shield babies from the sun, reclining seats with adjustable footrests, and a 3 dimensional compact fold for easy storage. It's also easy to maneuver, through doorways, around the mall, or through the grocery store. The Trevi is great for newborns, all the way up to kids weighing 40 lbs.

So, if you want to win, here's what you need to do: Leave a comment with your best tip for getting around town with multiple small children in tow... (doesn't have to be twins, a baby and a toddler counts as a handful too!)

That's it! I'll take comments through Monday, the 14th of July, and then randomly select a winner. Be sure to check back to see if you're the lucky winner. AND, pass the word around! If you know someone who needs a great double stroller, send them my way... or be a good friend and enter for them!

I have twins and I always had there favorite toy to keep them calm and tried not to be out during nap times so we didn't go through meltdowns. For me that always attracted attention then I would get the dreaded question "Are they twins?"

With my 2 year old twins, I always take their favorite snack and a drink with us. If they start getting cranky, then the snack will turn them into happy little shoppers. We have taken them shopping since they were little so they would get used to being in stores. They now ask every weekend to go to the mall...doesn't hurt that there is a play area there!

We had two things that helped us when our twins were younger.

The first tip: We tied two kick-and-play pianos to the headrest. The boys loved to play the pianos while we were in the car and it worked even better on evening outings b/c of the lights. Great Hit with our rear-facing duo!

The second tip: When the boys were really little we decided that we would let the boys play with toys in the store and tell them that they had to give it to the cashier b/c it was the stores and not ours when we were ready to check-out. This has worked wonderfully! Our boys love to shop b/c they get to play w/ all the great toys. We head right for the toy section, let them pick out a toy, and then I do my shopping while they play. When we get to the register they give it to the cashier and even say "Thank You" now that they can talk. We have never had a toy melt-down in the store to this day :)

I have 6 month old twins. When we're in the car I play a CD with songs that I've played for them since they were in the womb. When we're out somewhere, I talk to them constantly- about shapes, colors, etc...

I have a 20 mo old daughter and 5 mo old twin girls. Whenever we go on a trip and they get upset i sing to them and their big sis (well not so big sis, hehe) will join along. It is the cutest thing and they immediately quiet down. They love to hear their sister's voice ... and maybe their mommy's too.

I have 5 month old twin boys and so far we have it down when we go on adventures!!! We go shortly after they eat, that way they are happy and full :) I make sure and bring their favorite LOVEY(stuffed animal), pacifier and blanket. I have a huge double stroller and i call it our "tank"...i've been wanting something light weight!

A lot of people look at their dogs as kids. I like to take a different but similar approach and look at my children like a dog. Whenever I go out I make sure they have their child leash on. These leashes are fun, come in a variety of colors and won't let you down. You can tie your children to the stroller, or a pole if you will be in that spot for a while. You'll be amazed at how etertained your children will be trying to escape. With a leash almost nowhere is offlimits. It has really allowed me to improve my tennis game. Now, if only I could justify duck tape....:)

I don't have twins, but I'll leave a comment about a time when i wish I had a double stroller!

My friend and I had taken a trip into New Orleans to go to the aquarium. At the last minute we decided to take her car, and without thinking I didn't throw my umbrella stroller into her car. That really isn't such a big deal at the aquarium since my little one wouldn't stay in a stroller there anyway, but after our visit there we decided to walk into the French Quarter to go to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch.

By the time lunch was over it was well past nap time and I had two overly tired, crying children to haul back to the parking garage, a good mile walk away. My friend, who remembered her stroller, just threw her second child on top of the stroller and she was good to go. I didn't have it as easy. Neither kid would walk, both were crying and I was exhausted!

But I threw my four year old on my back and held him there with my left arm and held my two year old around my front with my right arm and hiked all the way across town just like that. It was exhausting!

The best thing to take along on any outing with twins? A second pair of hands if they are available! If not, then I always try to make sure I pack plenty of snacks, juice, milk, toys, and diapers. A great stroller is always a plus too!

sklay723 said...

I've been blessed with two kids who love to travel, but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we started our outings when they were just six weeks old. I needed to get out of the house, and with my husband's work schedule it was more often than not just me with the kids on my own. I started out at the mall...window shopping, since my budget didn't lend itself to too much spending. The mall takes on a whole new beauty when you've been cooped up in the house with twins for six weeks!
First thing I did, before anything else, was track down the nicest restroom in the mall...this particular department store has a sitting area separate from the bathroom stalls and sinks, and I could park my stroller, change diapers, give them feedings, and everything with a better level of privacy. I always packed a diaper bag with changes of clothes, bibs, blankets, bottles/formula, diapers and wipes, and a couple of toys, just to be safe. To this day, the mall is one of their favorite places to visit. And they're 2 1/2!

found your blog thru cheryl's blog. I could use this stroller...I have a very cumbersome double stroller that my twin boys (19 months) are outgrowing. its not a side by side and let me tell you what a pain it is. awesome giveaway, glad I found your blog

my tips for getting around town with twins is always plan everything around nap time and make sure to have plenty of food and water. We don't typically eat in the car, but once the boys are in their stroller they love to snack.

Way back when my 3 oldest were aged 5 and under, we'd take off to the grocery or department store with little trepidation. (These days I wonder how on earth I managed to go everywhere with them, when it's difficult to load and go with ONE grandchild. Whew!) I always wore skirts or dresses back then and would safely and confidently walk across a parking lot or other open space with one child in arms and the other two in tow. My instructions to them were to catch hold of my skirt tale. This kept me from walking too fast, and kept them from wandering off without my notice. Now, 25 years later, I sometimes miss those little tugs at my side when I walk into Ingles or Wally World. Also, when they thought they were too old to be attached to Mama in this fashion, they could only gain their freedom from such humiliation by agreeing to the rules of keeping close by.

I know this is going to sound like a crazy tip but I try to go to the grocery AT nap time. (this tip is for infants only) Our morning nap time is from 10-11:30 so I leave the house at 9:50. By the time we get to the grocery store babies are asleep. I put a blanket in the bottom of the basket and lay them down like a crib. They sleep through most of the trip and if they wake I have a bottle ready. If they wake for good they are 99% of the time in a good mood because they just had their nap.

Twins? I cannot even begin to imagine. My neighbor could use this, though. She has adorable twin girls. When my kids were babies, they were not happy with the stroller. I found that the best thing a mother can bring with her is her sense of humor. I would sing silly songs with the kids, I would even dance silly dances to lighten the mood. It is amazing what a little laughter can bring to an otherwise stressful experience. We had silly songs for all occasions, and they really saved the day. The best part is, my kids have wonderful senses of humor, now, and they are the ones making me laugh!

What a great thread and awesome giveaway! It's been fun reading everyone's advice (and horror stories)! I have 3 kiddos 4 and under! The best thing I've found is to NOT be in such a hurry all the time. It definately takes some mental adjusting- but when I slow down and take things at their pace I've found we all enjoy ourselves more. I'm not barking at anyone to hurry up and although we may not get as much done in a day it's a much more pleasant day. I try to get a few things done then we'll do something the kids enjoy. With my oldest we'll play alphabet and rhyming games. That gets her on "my team" and she's much more helpful that way!
Thanks for starting this thread!

How happy that I decided to take a break from my vacation from the internet to check your blog! I do not want this awesome double stroller, but here at the family reunion I'm currently attending, I have an aunt who is pregnant with twins who I'm entering for (without her knowledge...we'll deal with that later if I happen to win). I also don't have much in the way of knowledge, tips, or experience regarding getting around town with multiple children, but I can tell you how I plan to do it once #2 comes along. First of all, Garrett will be walking. That is a must. He will walk and baby will ride in the Ergo Carrier. I'm sure it will be a lot more complicated than that, but that's as far as I've thought. Basically my thinking boils down to training older children to fend for themselves as much as they can (walking-wise) so that I can carry the baby. Let's just say this line of thinking totally revovles around my total and complete love for the Ergo. Best carrier ever.

what a great blog and giveaway! I have two sets of twin boys, the first set will be 3 this month and the newest ones just turned 4months! Though I haven't made many trips out with all four yet, I used to take the first set out all the time. I tried to keep a routine schedule so that we did things the same time every day as to not disrupt the all-important naptime or bedtime. I also bring snacks in baggies which somehow made it more fun. I also have car toys, those that they can only play with in the car so they look forward to being in the car. Hopefully I'll come up with some new strategies/tips for bringing out all four alone!

Do you konw what..i hate that I dont have twins to answer this because my stroller just got infested with brown widows and we had to throw it away. I am strollerless and it totally sucks. Whats even worse, is that we put it on the curb..it was a big nice travel one too, and we folding it up and laid it w/t he trash, and someone came by and TOOK it. I pray to Goodness they dont put their child in it. Didnt they think..hey, why is this person throwing their perfectly nice stroller away? LOL!

lesson to everyone...be careful when you take trash.

SO if I am in the running...think US! We need a Brown Widowless spider stroller.

I'd love to win this for a family member who is due anyday, what a great giveaway! A few things I learned with getting a couple of kids around town (there are 9 years between my two but my best friend and I often did stuff together as her son is 6 mos older than my daughter)

Always keep crayons and paper handy. Some restaurants don't have these needed items for budding artists as they wait for their meals.

Keep the essentials (snacks, bottle, food, diapers, extra change of clothes, wipes etc..) close by-because you never know when you will need them and there is always a first time for everything, so be prepared!

thanks for the giveaway!

I have a lot of siblings and my family loves to travel. My tips for bringing multiple children around town would be:
1) eat before leaving the house
2) have some packed food & drinks handy
3) have some interesting new books for when the kids get bored
4) make sure everyone has had enough rest
5) take lots of pictures!

Hope this helps! And thanks for the chance to win this stroller. We're expecting our first baby this fall, and hopefully more to come :)

The best tip I can offer for getting around with twins is a sling. My son who lives in NY sent my daughter a couple of slings when the twins were born and she and I so enjoy taking them out in them. The twins are now 3-1/2 months and this stroller would be great as they are getting much more active.

I have an "emergency kit" of sorts in the car - my sister in law and I had babies 4 months apart (16 mo and 20 mo currently) so very often both kids will be with one of us. There are four small board books, a few toys that make noise, two mini inflatable beach balls, a couple packages of peanut butter crackers, and a few of the playtex disposable sippy cups. Can't tell you how many crises have been averted because of that bag!

I have triplet girl and without a doubt the best advice I could give someone about going out and about with multiples is to only take what you need for the planned time gone. Leave all the extras in the car in a rubbermaid tub.

Podee bottles make going out when feeding easy, and sunscreen is always a must.

With 3 month old twins, I'd agree with timing. After food and preferably after they've had a good morning nap, we will venture out. And having a sense of humor and being willing to change course mid stream is the only way to survive... We have a big tandem stroller which is great, but a light weight side by side now that they are a little bigger would be great..

The best way to get around with two little kids is... leave them with dad lol.

Sarah Bauer said...

The easiest way for me to get out is to lure my two-year-old into the stroller by telling him to pick two things to go with us, book or toys, and letting him buckle himself into the stroller. I strap my 3-week old to me in the bjorn and we are good to go on a great walk. Luckily the two-year-old is a great helper and if his brother needs something he is very good about a change in plans or a quick stop for a feeding. He's also into counting, shapes, watching for big trucks and looking for things to spot, like flowers or trees, so we make a game out of it.

Jen C. said...

Ooooh... This stroller looks awesome! I have an almost 2-yr-old and 2 and 1/2 month old twins. The only way I survive is by planning quick trips right after the babies are fed and bringing a matchbox car for my son to play with. Also, having a stroller that's lightweight and easy to put in and out of the car seems that it would be most helpful... ;)

I guess the best advice I have when taking out multiple children is to be prepared with all the essentials. I have never been one to go all out with unneccessary fancy stuff, but some dry cereal in tupperware, a drink for everyone (including a bottle of water for mommy), diapers, wipes(LOTS), extra clothes, and my daughter's blankie and we are good to go! My motto is to pack light, but pack enough!

Patti V said...

I have a 2 1/2yr old and a 6 month old... I try to leave the house right after the baby is done eating and have my daughter help as much as possible. If I have her helping get things off the shelves she's not crying for other things. It makes her feel so important especially if she is doing something for her brother.

I have a 3 year old and a 1 month old. I also make sure the diaper bag is fully stocked with all the baby items and snacks for my older child. Luckily, my kids like to be out and about. (Especially if we are outdoors.)

I am the mother of 6 and the first 4 are 14-18 months apart. We live in another country and my husband is currently deployed to Iraq for 15 months. Getting around with the 2 youngest gets tricky sometimes because we have to take along 2 strollers. But it can be done if it is totally necessary. I make sure to bring along plenty of snacks and entertainment. The biggest challenge is keeping my toddler IN the stroller when she gets bored. We are planning a trip home to the states soon and getting through the airport with all these kids, luggage, and 2 strollers (with no hubby to help) should be very interesting!!

As the proud mother of a 3yr boy and 14 month old twins, I must say a double stroller is not big enough, but it gets the job done. I always grab a couple diapers, wipes, snacks and drinks and out the door we go. This stroller would be a great addition since my the twins are starting to entertain themselves on trips by talking. They really can't do that in a tandem stroller.

Found your site through Laura's Mommy Journal. This stroller would come in very handy since I ran our double stroller over last month. =)

Tips for getting out and about.
*Lots of snacks. I love the snack traps the BRU sells. They keep the fishies in while allowing the babies to eat them.

*I sing to them while driving, do baby sign, or tell stories to keep them entertained.

*Toys that strap the the carseats work wonders.

*Baby wearing. I wear one baby in my Ergo carrier while pushing the other in the cart.

*Extra clothes, sippies, and diapers.

I think that the best thing to have when hauling children around, besides a lovely stroller like this, is snacks! It keeps them full & pre-occupied most of the time.

I have this stroller and it rocks! I have a three year old and a 10 month old, works so well for both!

OMGoodness that is great! I have 2 girls...WHO ARE ONLY 14 MONTHS APART! That's right...some would even say that's worse than having twins because they are going in opposite directions yet still too young to help or even know what's going on. I found out I was pregnant with my baby when my oldest was only 5 months old! When my youngest was born my oldest was only 14 months and barely walking. Taking them both out in public has proven to be a challenge when they both depend on you for so much. This stroller is awesome!

Boy oh boy, could I use this. It looks awesome and I have a 3 year old and 10 month old, plus a 6 year old. This would make getting things done when we're out, sooooo much easier. Please enter me, I'll cross my fingers :P Thanks so much for the awesome giveaway!

Yeah! This is such a great giveaway!! My tip for getting around with more than one child is to take advantage of babywearing if you have a younger child. Keeping one child in a sling/carrier keeps your hands more available for the second, third, etc. Thank you for the chance to win! m_huston(at)hotmail(dot)com

I've only been at toting-two for 3 weeks now, but my best tip is to teach the oldest to go up and down stairs by him/herself. And to count on looking silly when you have to hold two and diaper bag and purse and... etc.

I'm about to have #4 in the fall and I was just commenting to my husband the other day that we needed to scour yardsales for another stoller because our is wearing out! Winning one would be even better.

Tip? Well, I'm a babywearing addict so my main advice is use a baby carrier. I prefer soft carriers like pouch slings or ring slings, but any carrier than keep Baby close to your body will do...and keep your hands free for the other little ones.

I taught my toddler to hold on to the strap of my purse at all times and to never let go. I can constantly feel the pressure of her holding on so if it ever stops, I gently remind her to hold on again. She very rarely lets go anymore. I feel much better toting around my baby when I know she's glued to me like that.

I was nanny to a toddler and her baby sister, and I never set foor outside the house without something for each little one to eat, drink, and be entertained by - especially the toddler. The baby was usually entertained by big sister and, so long as big sis was captivated by something, chances were baby sis was happy too:)
I'm mom to just one for now, but I have a friend with one little one and one on the way (due early November) and this stroller would be a wonderful surprise for her:)

aw, man! I'm pregnant with my third and already wondering how I'm going to manage another. :) I try to wear the baby as much as possible. That is a huge lifesaver for me.

I have a two year old and a one year old (AND we're expecting twins in Jan. 09) so getting around town efficiently is a must! I carry plenty of snacks for my two boys as well as books and toys. Mostly, though, I just like to point out things we see while out and about. The conversation is great for them - and me!

My twins are 8 months and still ride the the carriers so we bring along toys that can hang or connect. I have a ton of connecting loops so I make the chain really long and they can't loose their toys! I am so worried I'll never get out of the house after they grow out of these seats.

i have a 22 mnth old little boy and a 8 mnth old little girl... getting around with them his hard.
For example if i want to go shopping i have to carry my 8mnth girl on my hip and my 22 mnth old is holding my hand which usually he doesnt co-operate and tries to get away from me and run off. so i tend to stay at home most of the time and miss out on just about everything b/c its just too hard for me.. Im soo Tierd of being home soo much im getting stir crazy we need to get out and see some new scenery and go on adventures together... i know they would enjoy it tremendiously.
ps. the Best tip for getting around town with multiple children is... "THIS STROLLER" otherwise leave them home with daddy... ;)
