Did you vote for the RIGHT reasons?

Last week Jordan came home with a sticker on his shirt that said, "I voted today." I asked him about it, and he said his entire school voted in a mock election for President.

Now, Jordan and I haven't had very many conversations about politics. Perhaps I neglected my civic duty of discussing the candidates with my seven year old, but really, we hadn't even talked about the names of those running. So, I was anxious to see what went down in the great halls of the elementary school...

I asked Jordan, "Who won?"

He immediately replied, "John McCain... 95 - 67 votes."

"Really? Who did you vote for?" I asked.

He answered: "John McCain... he was a soldier, and he parachuted out of an airplane, and broke his arms and legs, and was a prisoner for a long time and then the bad guys found out his dad was a soldier too, and they told him he could go, but he wouldn't go unless his other men could go with him... I thought that made him pretty cool, so I voted for him."

I said, "That's good Jordan. John McCain was a very honorable soldier."

Then I asked, "Did they tell you anything about the other guy?"

He said, "Who Barack Obama? Yeah. And he's done some good stuff too. But it wasn't as COOL."

I wish making a choice for President was so easy for grown ups too..

The guy who has done the coolest stuff wins. The end.
